Holy Family

Overview
People and churches were named after saints and martyrs as early as the fourth century. Although the pope may nominate patron saints from their ranks so can individuals and communities. Many of the saints are depicted with a symbol or iconic motif, known as an attribute, to identify them to the illiterate. St Agatha with her breasts on a platter, St Lawrence with his gridiron, for example.

As a result of her several manifestations and apparitions, the Virgin Mary is the patroness of many towns in Mallorca.
